2008: Tasksy - Timetracking and Invoicing for Freelancers

Tasksy - Timetracking and Invoicing for Freelancers Website

Tasksy is a time-tracking and invoicing application of which I am the principal developer and maintainer. It grew out of my desire for an application that catered specifically to the needs of freelancers on my scale.

This application is built on a standard Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP framework. It utilizes Ajax liberally but not excessively, and its design is focused on usability.

Completed Projects

Summer 2009: Douglas Magazine

Douglas Magazine Website

Douglas Magazine required a developer to create for them a highly-customized dynamic website. As sole developer on the project, I was responsible for transforming design mockups into a user-oriented site.

The final product is built on Joomla, with several custom modules, plugins and components created for the project.

2009: Personal Protection Systems

Personal Protection Systems Website

Personal Protection Systems is a Victoria company specializing in self-protection workshops, seminars, and training.

The site is built on Wordpress for convenient editing, and features a number of sections and detailed navigation.

Winter 2008: “Slick Corporate” Template

“Slick Corporate” Template Website

This template was also created for themeforest.net. Again, it has two differet color schemes. The overall design is admittedly not the height of originality, but I think the detail is quite nice.

The making of this template was harder than the last one; a lot of specific details had to be ironed out, especially involving Internet Explorer. But, I think this trend shows some of the progress my designs have made over these past few years.

Winter 2008: “Dark Business” Template

“Dark Business” Template Website

This template was created for sale on themeforest.net. It has a few different color variants, and extremely flexible layout options.

Creating templates has been pretty educational. The guys at Theme Forest are pretty specific about what gets in, and having to lay everything — absolutely everything — out in Photoshop before I touch the code has been a learning experience.

Summer 2008: Creative Works Photography

Creative Works Photography Website

Creative Works Photography was a site I did for a photographer, who formerly maintained two separate photography websites by hand, editing the pages every time he had to add new photos. For some reason he took issue with out-of-the-box photo managers, and wanted something truely custom.

This project had me creating, from the ground up, a full photo-management app, complete with user validation, web-based batch uploading, photo tagging and sorting, and a number of other fine features. Plus, it was portable enough that he could use it on both sites. I bet he'd sell you a copy if you asked nicely.

Summer 2008: CPA-NOW

CPA-NOW Website

CPA-NOW is a self-study program for Canadian accountants wanting to be certified for practice in the US. It is orchestrated by one Henry Zimmer, who has written several books on accounting.

This site is my first to use the blueprint css framework, although I suspect it won't be the last. It features some very thorough PHP form processing and some handy automatic PHP updates, as well.
